Datsun 1600

This Datsun has come in with a part-throttle stumble for Chip to diagnose. I like these cars. Once I get the diagnosis, I’ll post it here in hopes it will help someone else figure out their own car.

The Red TR4A Runs!

I’m excited. This car has had the entire fuel system refurbished, the cooling system refurbished, the pedals remounted, and a bunch of other things I’m forgetting like replacing half of the frame. See this post for an idea. Now, the carbs are back from Gary Martin, installed, and it runs! It’s a great feeling. I think I heard Chip say we’re going to put tires on it, too. We can’t wait to deliver it back to the owner for him to put some miles on it!

Restored Triumph TR3 Out The Door

This TR3 will be leaving soon. It has a new paint job, rebuilt engine, rebuilt transmission, new dash covering, and surely plenty of stuff I’m missing. The owner will install the interior. We’ve road tested it. It runs great and looks fantastic.

Brakes Are Broke(n) AKA Austin-Healey Brake Line Arteriosclerosis

An Austin-Healey 3000 came into the shop with rear drum-brakes that would apply but not release. Dean removed the flex hoses that run from the hard brake line to the brake cylinders, cut one open to see what was inside, and found this:

Old flex hose nearly closed up with solidified (stuff?).

Old flex hose nearly closed up with solidified (stuff?).

Whatever was in the flex hose that used to be liquid was no longer liquid, and the resulting pinhole was so small that fluid could not exit the wheel cylinders once the pedal was released. The brakes were able to activate only because the pressure from the pedal application was so great that it managed to push fluid through the degraded line.

TR6 With Fuel Injection Update

Well, she’s on the road. Everything is hooked up and the car is running. Dean completed a data-logging run and will send the file off to Affordable Fuel Injection for analysis. If something looks amiss, they’ll send a different chip with refined calibrations. With Throttle Body Injection and a 5 speed, this car is a real nice driver.

Red TR4A in the Homestretch

This TR4A is close to driving again, after a number of years. With half a new frame, rebuilt carbs, radiator, fuel lines, fuel pump, brakes, suspension, and some other things I surely forgot, we’re really looking forward to it.
